Think of dental insurance as lending money to an insurance company. At the time that you now need funds to pay your dental expenses, they not pay you back. The only difference is that you don’t get money back if you don’t get dental bills. Thats just it. Your dental costs each year could range from a couple of hundred to a couple of hundred thousand dollars! The thing is that you never see it coming, and the expense could just swallow you up like that. For this reason, you simply must have dental insurance. Even in dental insurance there are a few limitations, just like you have in health insurance. You do have waiting periods from the time of your emergency to the time that your money is paid back to you by the insurer. For this cause, you will do well to have some funds of your own on your person so that you are not kept waiting. You may claim that later. If you have pre-existing dental conditions, you might have trouble securing dental insurance. Actually, they will likely let you have it, but at a higher premium that usual because they envisage that you will be seeing the dentist a bit more regularly than the average person. If you have an insurance agent, talk to them about the possibility of including dentals with your already hefty package. They will welcome the idea, and you should be indemnified in no time. It would be a sin, though, to walk about without dental insurance.
